Payroll & Accounts Assistant

Our friendly team here at JMC are now seeking a Payroll and Accounts Assistant (Purchase Ledger Clerk) to join us on a permanent full time basis located in Exeter, near the Airport.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the existing Accounts and Payroll team in performing general payroll and finance related duties.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To maintain and input payroll information in a precise and accurate manner
  • Provide payroll and accounts advice and information
  • Assist in running an efficient and effective payroll service
  • Check, calculate and input weekly and monthly payroll data
  • Process weekly contractor payroll
  • Creating new customer and supplier records on accounts software
  • Process and monitor all staffing changes including starters, leavers and other amendments to salaries and data in compliance with policy and payroll requirements
  • Undertaking of week end processes and reconciliation
  • Producing, recording and uploading sales invoices
  • Inputting sales and purchase invoices onto system
  • Running reports to reconcile entries made
  • Filing sales and purchase invoices
  • Maintain all files and update information as required
  • Bank ledger and bank reconciliations

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Strong organisational skills
  • High level of confidentiality
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Willingness to always develop skills and knowledge
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work accurately and methodically with attention to detail
  • High level of numeracy and ability to deal accurately with calculations of a complex nature
  • Ability to organise, schedule and adapt work tasks to meet conflicting deadlines
  • and respond to changing situations

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a busy office environment would be advantageous but not essential
  • Experience of using Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems
  • Previous experience with Sage 50 Accounts and payroll software desirable however not essential
  • Previous experience in a similar role desirable however not essential

Qualifications:

  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
